Funny St. Patrick’s Day Cross Stitch Patterns

St. Patrick’s Day is kind of a funny holiday to me. The idea behind the holiday isn’t funny, but the way it is celebrated, with leprechauns and all things green (including beer) can get a little silly. So I thought it would be fun to collect some funny St. Patrick’s Day cross stitch patterns that would be great to share with Irish friends or those who love getting into shenanigans any time of year.

Speaking of shenanigans, let’s start there. This “Let the shenanigans begin” cross stitch is from Demented Stitchers on Etsy. It’s 75 stitches square, or about 5.4 inches square on 14-count fabric. It looks to me like it uses five colors.

I feel like gnomes are inherently funny, and this collection of gnomes full of Irish pride is definitely cute and would be lots of fun the stitch. The pattern measures 147 by 46 stitches, or about 10.5 inches by 3.3 inches worked on 14 count fabric. When I first saw it I thought it would be great for a bookmark, but it might actually be a bit big for that. It would make a cute wall hanging though! It uses 17 colors in whole stitches and backstitch, and you can get it from Cross Stitch Pictorial on Etsy.

Got luck? That’s the question this shamrock-filled pattern from Plum Street Samplers asks. It’s worked in three colors — two shades of green and ecru — or you could try stitching green beads where the ecru is to give it a different look.

This collection of five funny St. Patrick’s day cross stitch patterns is from Whimsy Orchard and they definitely remind me of my Irish cousins. Each pattern is roughly 83 by 103 stitches, or 7.4 by 6 inches on 14 count fabric. If you want to stitch all of them you’ll need 16 colors but most of them don’t use that many.
